Title: What is Life?

His presence is everywhere! It is great to be in His presence in church, but we need to remember that He is with us wherever we go - in our schools, in our place of work, in our cars, and in our homes. He is all powerful and fills the air!

What is Life?

If you have the wrong perception about life, you will not be living correctly. You can't define life by what you see on television. You may find yourself asking "How can I be victorious as a child of God?" If you have the wrong perception about what life is about then you won't be productive, you won't be able to overcome the powers of darkness, and you won't be filled with the Spirit.

Our discussion today is going to revolve around Psalms 73:1-18. It is a story of a man who was a leader in the church yet still questioned the meaning of life. Perhaps you know someone like this? Somebody can worship the Lord and still not understand who they are worshiping. You can't reign in authority if you don't know the one true God you are serving. This is the Psalm of Asaph.

Asaph was a worshiper in the Kingdom. He was a musician and a young priest for the tribe of Levi. The lesson today is that you will be limited in your service of God if you don't know what He can do. Asaph questioned what God can do.

Asaph knew what being in the house of God was all about. He was a worshiper and a leader. He could make music with cymbals (1 Chronicles 16:5). Asaph played prophetically (1 Chronicles 15:19). Every time Asaph played instruments he prophesied (1 Chronicles 25:1).

Even if you worship God and give all of your tithes and offerings, if you don't understand life, you will not feel fulfilled.

In Psalms 73:2 it says "As for me" - who? A worshiper. Asaph was part of the ministry. He had seen the power of Jesus. "My feet were almost gone." When you define your belief on material things you will not be fulfilled. Commonly heard among many Christians is the statement "Because I serve God I shouldn't have problems [I shouldn't have to suffer], but I have problems [I suffer]." This is incorrect thinking. If we have God we can survive our problems, but problems will come. The question is if you will be prepared to be victorious.

Life is not defined by your net worth (Psalms 73:3). Having God in your life is worth more than all the treasures in the world. One of the problems is that you see what others have without understanding how they got it. Don't allow material things to define who you are.

"I keep praying, but I still have pains" is the sentiment in Psalms 73:4. God says He gives the wicked a long rope to see if they can change. God will bring the righteous home. God takes the righteous when they are ready. Sometimes God protects the wicked so that they can have a second chance.

The devil won't waste his time on the wicked. He won't attack them because they are already his. The devil attacks the righteous to try to turn them from God. The wicked don't get sick because the devil doesn't need to attack them (Psalms 73:5).

Be content in God. Be content with what you have in God (Proverbs 28:4). There is grace and power in the name of Jesus. He is greater than he who is living in the world. If you live on the mentality that you love God no matter what, your victory will come.

The wicked can be violent, fighting against government, police, and those in authority (Psalms 73:6). Often they get away with it. The wicked have everything they want because they go for it no matter what it takes - lying, cheating, even stealing (Psalms 73:7).

The wicked say things as if they are in charge of life (Psalms 73:8). They talk against God and the heavens (Psalms 73:9). The man who made the printing press was against God but God had his way. After the man died, his children used the printing press to print bibles that were affordable to the average person.

The wicked don't think God knows what they are doing (Psalms 73:11). But God knows. Stand firm. God is going to bless you. He is preparing you for higher heights.

The wicked prosper in the world (Psalms 73:12), but you can't define life based on material prosperity and still be truly content. Don't base your life on your material wealth and prosperity. Base your life on your treasures stored up in the kingdom.

Don't feel that you are wasting your life by chasing after God and not material things (Psalms 73:13). Asaph thought he was living his life in vain. He thought paying tithes was in vain. You can be rich, materialistically, without being in the kingdom. But it is the wrong kind of richness. God gave the gospel to the poor because it has more value than any treasures in the world.

Life may not be easy and you may feel plagued at times (Psalms 73:14) but we are fighting for a higher purpose. Your life is not defined by what you don't have in this world.

If you look at all of these things (that the wicked have) and you are not careful, it will bring you pain (Psalms 73:16). It wasn't until Asaph went to the sanctuary that he understood the fate of the wicked (Psalms 73:17). Asaph was a minister in the house of God and it took him effort to understand what life was all about. It wasn't about all those things the wicked have. He finally understood the fate of the wicked people (Psalms 73:18). They will pay for their wickedness. You may never see it, but know that it is true.

Because of covetousness.... (Luke 12:15) when you define life on material things, the spirit of greediness is upon you. You need to rebuke that spirit. A man's life does not consist of what he has in the material world.

Even if you don't have material possessions, you need to lift up your hands and praise His name. Give your life to Jesus. God is worthy of your praise. He wants you to have eternal life, for those riches are greater than anything you can posses in this world.

Jesus is life (John 1:4). Life is not owning a Mercedes or a Lamborghini; it's not your iPhone. Do not base your life on technology. That is not life, and life would go on without it. In Christ there is life. Don't be addicted to the internet. Be addicted to Christ. Be addicted to God.

So now you ask "Why should I have a life in Christ?"

1) You will live a life of contentment.

2) You will not be moved by what people say.

Don't define your happiness on what you don't have. Don't live outside your means. Don't be ashamed of what you have or don't have. Live a contented life in Christ.

People's opinions do not define who you are. You are defined by a life in Christ.

Life is defined by the measure of Christ in you!

Title: Who is a mother?

Today is Mother's Day and it is a day we recognize those women who have been an influence in our lives. But who is a mother? It's not just someone who has visited the labor room in a hospital. It is a woman whose heart is filled up with nothing but love. It is someone who is selfless. If you are selfish you can't truly love.

You can be a mother not just in your home, but in your school, your place of work, and your church.

It's not about age. It's about doing the work of God. Don't just be what you want to be for God, but what God wants you to be.

Rebekah (Genesis 25:20-28, Genesis 27:6-29) is our (negative) role model today. She raised two nations, but not well. She should have gone to God and asked for the grace to raise two nations.Instead she played favoritism with one of her sons. Mother's should never play favoritism, they should be impartial.

Rebekah should have been teaching her sons to love each other, to be good to each other. But in this she failed. One son cheated his brother out of his birthright. Rebekah failed in teaching the brothers to love each other. As a mother it is her function to teach her children to love,

Title: Biblical Definition of Life (continued)

What a great God we serve! Thank God for Mother's! Appreciate your mother every day, not just one day a year.

Last week we talked about the biblical definition of life. If you have the wrong impression about life you won't love God. Your understanding about life will determine how you interact with people.

A lot of people have quit the church because they had a wrong perception about life. They thought life is about what you have or should have. But this is not life. Life isn't about what you have or don't have (unless of course what you have is a relationship with Christ).

Don't define your life by what you have or don't have. Beware of covetousness (Luke 12:15). Life is not defined by what you have. You don't have life just because you are rich or drive a nice car. God wants our goodness but he doesn't want us to base our life on what we don't have.

To enjoy pleasure is vanity (Ecclesiastes 2:1). You can't define life by your level of happiness. You can't define your relationship with God by your being happy. The world cannot define what life is.

1 John 3:1-3 is emphasizing the highest level of honor. The highest level of honor you possess is that you are called a child of God. That you are called to God's service. We don't have all it takes to be qualified. God gives us the grace to be qualified. On our own, we cannot be. The highest honor is not driving an expensive car or living in a mansion (these things cannot give you true joy).

The world does not know who you are and shouldn't define how you live. The world does not know God. Do not define your joy based on what the world offers. Your life shouldn't be defined by what the world offers, and certainly not by what they sell on television.

There is a difference between happiness and joy (Ecclesiastes 2:2). The world will never understand joy. People are happy because there is money in their pockets, a car in their driveway, and a nice house to live in. But because of this they will not know joy.

Having fun is not a bad thing, but you cannot define your life on having fun. If you don't define life accurately based on the life given, it will affect how you worship. Don't become a Christian Contractor. Don't worship God based on what you are given materialistically or by telling God "if you give me this I will serve you."

If you aren't careful you will not think serving God is fun. But it is. Treasure is what everyone wants to have (2 Corinthians 4:7). Everyone wants treasure. But be careful. Our way of defining treasure should be aligned with the way God defines treasure and not by the worlds definition. The power of the Holy Ghost is a treasure.

God can make a way for you. God will perform miracles for you. Having a miracle does not define your relationship with God. If you trust God for deliverance, he will deliver you but that doesn't define what life is about.

We are troubled on every side (2 Corinthians 4:8) but it can't weigh you down because there is a treasure in you. You are not defined by your troubles. If troubles come they should not define your mood. Jesus is the door of life. If another door closes for you, make sure the door for Christ is open. We can have lots of troubles around us, but we will not be defeated.

You will not have joy if you define your life on what you have. You need to define your life on having God in your life.

Greater is He that is in me than he who is in the world. Every time you give yourself to God, the enemy will try to come against you but you will have victory because you have this treasure. Listen to that small voice in you. You will be able to overcome because there is a treasure in you. Life is not defined by people, but by the treasure in you. If you don't have this treasure, look for it, sell everything to get it (Matthew 13:44).

We, as children of God, do not give up the hope of living even when we are perplexed (when you don't know what to do). Don't allow material things, nor troubles, to affect your relationship with God.

Believe even against hope (Romans 4:18-20) because there is a treasure in you. Believe in hope even when it seems impossible. At this point in Abraham's life he was without hope. He was worried he would have to give his inheritance to his slave but God had other plans. Abraham was not weak in faith and that is what saved him. The treasure we are talking about gives us a way out. You may not have money in your pocket, but the treasure in you will tell you that you are blessed; that there is a way out.

Even though Sarah's womb was dead, there was hope in the treasure. Deep down in Abraham's heart he knew he was going to make it. The treasure will never see impossibility. There is a way out if you have the treasure we are talking about!

There is a treasure in you and that is the power of the Holy Ghost. It will allow you to defeat all troubles and give you victory.

People will try to push you around (2 Corinthians 4:9). When you try to tell them the truth they won't want to hear it. It makes us persecuted, but we are not forsaken because God will never leave us. The Lord is by your side. The only thing you should care about is the glory of God in you. People's opinion do not, should not, matter.

People's opinion do not define who you are. John 9:1-3 is a story of a man who was born blind. People said it was because he was wicked or because his parents sinned. People will have all kinds of opinions about your life. If you listen to them it will affect your worship. It wasn't the unbeliever who was absent. It was the people in the church. People will try to tell you bad things are happening to you because of the way you are behaving. But they don't know you. They don't know your relationship with God.

Some wicked people live longer than Christians (I'm reminded of the expression "only the good die young"). The sinners live longer because God is trying to give them another chance to turn their life around. Don't allow people's opinions to define the way you worship. Don't let the wicked define your life.

Blessed are they that dwell in your house (Psalms 84:4-6). This is trying to tell us about the state of our churches. You are passing through the valley of Baca (means sorrowful). If you have the treasure in you, you will never live in a constant place of sorrow. You will turn it around and it will become a well of praising, a well of worship.

In the midst of the valley of sorrow, whatever you decide is going to happen will be so. God will lift you up and give you strength if that is what you want.

Title: "Spirit of Faith" Notes and YouTube Video

If you are a believer and you have the spirit of God, then you have the spirit of faith. Some believers have a hard time recognizing what they have. As long as you have the Holy Ghost, you have the spirit of faith.

You will live a righteous life through the spirit of faith.Righteousness is a hard thing to do, but we can be righteous. You can subdue kingdoms through faith (Hebrews 11:33). There is a possibility of living righteous through faith (Romans 10:6).

The spirit of faith enables you to live righteously. By faith, Rahab survived the destruction of a city and she perished not. By faith, she was delivered and rescued from danger (Hebrews 11:31).

Let's take a little time and discuss Joshua 2:1-10. Righteousness gives you strength to enjoy the presence of God. Your actions are controlled by your faith. How did Rahab, by faith, avoid destruction? Why did God allow the spies into her house? There was a spirit of faith that was rising up in her insides.

Why did Rahab hide the spies (Verse 4)? Her actions have changed her thought patterns. She had changed. She discovered something that is higher than the law of the land. Immediately after you discover faith, it is going to change your focus.

Rahab doesn't want to go on with what's going on in Jericho (Verse 5). Her actions were affected by her belief. The system about you will be changed because you have faith in the Word of God. If you have faith in God, the way you react to the things around you will be changed.

Faith comes by hearing and knowledge. She was acting differently because she had knowledge of what God has done in other nations (Verse 9). This is the kind of knowledge that comes from investigation. She discovered the God of Israel was a great God.

Through faith your actions change because there is something you see that others do not see. The people of Jericho could not see the things Rahab saw. If you have (and can understand the function of) the spirit of faith, you won't be troubled by the things that come your way.

Everyone in Jericho had knowledge of what God has done but did not respond the way Rahab did (Verse 10). The spirit of faith will enable you to act differently than other people. You will know there is a way out.

Are you a member of the household of faith? (Galatians 6:10) The problems we experience are because we do not know how to use our faith. Everything is available to us if there is faith inside of us. This is the faith that overcomes challenges and troubles in the name of Jesus Christ.

A believer does not have a faith problem. Through the communication of your faith (how to use it) you can become effectual by acknowledging all the good things in you through Jesus Christ (Philemon 1:6). What you say through faith, for you to communicate effectively, you must have the knowledge of every good thing that is in you and in Christ Jesus. You must know all those good things you have through Christ Jesus.

Let's turn back to Joshua 2:12-13. Rahab (in Verse 12) was making a request based on her knowledge of what God can do. She knew things. She was making a request based on her knowledge. Why does our heart doubt what we are talking to God about? You must have belief and knowledge, and lack doubt.

See that (in Verse 13) she was specific with her prayer request. Did God grant her her desires? Yes! She was the only one who was saved. Believe every word you bring before God and our God will answer your prayers. Through faith you can obtain protection from the enemies that come against you. You can obtain help from God. You can obtain righteousness and victory.

Have faith in Christ and you will be healed (Matthew 8:13).

You must have faith in God and you will be able to move your mountains. Rahab was able to move her mountain (the destruction of Jericho) because she had faith and believed. Believe in your heart and speak with your mouth and have no doubt (disbelief). Know that God can help you out if you believe God's Word. Exactly what you believe in your heart is what should come out of your mouth. Believe that you already have the things you are asking for.

David saw his victory over Goliath before he ever had it (See 1 Samuel 17). Never doubt what you ask from God.

Live by that faith in the Son of God (Galatians 2:20). You must have faith in God.

Rahab was able to overcome the destruction of Jericho because she had faith. Trust God that things are going to work out. No matter what you are passing through, our God is enough. Our God can cause you to walk in righteousness through faith in Jesus.

Our God is a God who answers prayers. Our God is a God who works things out. Our God is a way maker and a chain breaker. Believe that whatever you ask of God that you already have it and He will make a way

Title: Revival is Coming

Today we had three guest speakers. Two were college students from California, and one was a representative of the Utica Rescue Mission. They all had a similar message and those revolved around the fact that revival is coming and it's coming soon.

Put your trust in the Lord, not men or chariots. The things you don't work at will fall apart. You must work on your faith and those things of God.

Remember that we believe in the truth.

Mark chapter 5 (see Mark 5:1-5) starts with a man who was possessed by demons that called themselves Legion. We are an Apostolic church and we believe that demons and the supernatural exist and that they are no challenge to God and Christ. We have power over demons because of our faith. In this story Christ easily defeats Legion. This man had been possessed by thousands of demons. He was crazy and would tear his clothes. The people would bind his hands and feet with chains. And every time they bound him, he would break the shackles. Because he was possessed he could break the physical chains, but every time after he broke the chains he would return to the graveyard. He was unable to break the non-physical chains. As Christians, we rely on God to be our chain breaker. But we have to prevent ourselves from going back to our graveyards (our addictions, bad habits, etc.) like this man who was possessed by Legion did after breaking his chains. God wants us to be prosperous in a spiritual sense.

We live in a corrupt society, but revival is coming and it starts with you. We must continue to seek God diligently.

The youth of our church are dealing with pressures and tendencies like never before. We live in a pornographic era where television is influences by the devil. Sex, homosexuality, and wrong behavior is promoted constantly on television, even in the advertisements. Lust of the eyes, coveting and wanting what is in the world like big houses and fast cars, these are just a few of the pressures we all face. The first thing we must know is that the devil wants us to take our eyes off God and Jesus Christ (Genesis 3:6).

There is nothing good that you can successfully do without God. Pride comes before the fall (Proverbs 16:18). Don't think that the good things you accomplish were all on your own. Your pride is the reason you are the same. Your pride is the reason you go to church each Sunday but never change. Submit yourself to God. This will give you the ability to defeat the devil.

When you die you can't take the things of this world with you (1 John 2:17). Don't take your eyes off of God. There are three things that are out to destroy you on a daily basis: the devil, the world, and the flesh. Seek after God, He can help you to defeat these things, these desires. Get a hold on Him. Walk with Him seven (7) days a week, not just on Sunday. Don't go to church on Sunday and walk in the flesh the rest of the week. This will be your downfall.

Revival starts with us. We must comply with the Word of God. We must submit to God and His Word. Revival has to start in the house of God. Confess your sins to one another and you will be forgiven.

Are you walking the walk of faith?

Jesus told his disciples to go forth and do four (4) things: declare the kingdom has come, heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out demons. More than ever we need the spiritual power available to us. We are connected to the world through our phones and television. We need revival. We need to be set free. We need to hear the word and run with it. Invest yourself in the Word. Invest your money and your relationships in it.

Be prepared for revival, and submerse yourself in it, be part of it.
