Title: Know Your Nature

Notes:

Today, Brother Benjamin talked about knowing your nature. It is very important to understand your nature as a child of God. You won't find it in a self help book. Those will only confuse you. "Am I an introvert or an extrovert?" Don't be confused. As children of God, THAT is our nature. God is our nature.

As I sat thru Brother Benjamin's lesson today (not taking notes), I felt without purpose and I had to analyze why and ask myself if I understood my nature.

For the past 3 or 4 months I have been giving in to the battle. I have been sleeping late on Sundays and letting the enemy whisper to me how much work it is to take notes and transcribe them and then upload them to the website. There never seems to be enough hours in the day. I was spending what little spare time I have relaxing instead of working. Letting the flesh win over the spirit. Because most of the work I do in my spare time (besides household chores) is maintaining the church's web sites (a big part of which is the note taking). But I had forgotten that this has an effort of love. Recently I have started my fight to find my way back to the path. I'm happy when I am fighting the good fight. I found I am miserable when I let the enemy win.

So why was I without purpose? and what is my nature? We all have our strengths and weaknesses. What had been giving me purpose over the last year or so is transcribing the important lessons heard at River of Life Christian Church here in Rome NY and maintaining the website. It has given me a way to pay it forward for the Kingdom of God. My nature is that I am a child of God. And I am happy when I am working for the kingdom.

Know your Nature and be happy. So many people are running around these days not understanding their nature or even who they are, or what they identify with. Know your nature. Know who you are. You are a child of God.

Title: Spiritual Growth

Notes:

Spiritual Growth is very vital. It is different from salvation. It is not about impressing God. God is already impressed. Justification comes by the blood of Christ. Spiritual Growth is not about getting salvation.

Last week we talked about how knowledge increases our Spiritual Growth. You must do something about it. Spiritual Growth must come deliberately. It is not for lazy people. You can't grow spiritually if you are lazy. You must make up your mind to grow spiritually.

What takes you to Heaven is salvation, not spiritual growth. But if you don't grow spiritually you won't make use of the benefits of salvation.

1 Samuel 2:12 - The reason the sons of Eli were called the sons of Belial is because they did not know the Lord, They were of the seed of Eli, a line of priests. They took another nature that was not their nature. They should have been custodians of the law, but they wwere not because they didn't know the Lord. The word "know" here is the knowledge that comes because you put yourself into it. You must deliberately place a value on the things of God. The Greek word here is "yada" - the knowledge that comes through submission to learning.

1 Samuel 2:21, 26 - Samuel grew. The children of Eli did not grow. Samuel did one thing that the sons of Eli did not. He paid attention to instructions. How much are you growing in your spiritual life? Do you take instruction well?

1 Samuel 3:19 - Samuel made use of the knowledge of God and grew.

1 Samuel 2:18 - Samuel grew because he ministered. This means he served. He gave himself over to instruction.

1 Samuel 2:12 - Growth is dependent on you. Only you can determine how you grow. You are the one who determines how much growth happens to you.

1 Samuel 2:13 - The priest's servants were the sons of Eli. They thought they could behave anyway they wanted because their father was a priest. We need to instruct our children.

1 Samuel 2:14-16 - The sons of Eli were misbehaving in the temple. They were going against the law. Growth in the church is not criteria to get into heaven. You must give yourself to the Word.

1 Samuel 2:17-18 - It must be your decision to grow. It must be your decision to serve the Lord. The growth of Samuel came because he listened whereas the sons of Eli did not.

1 Samuel 3:1-10 - The key to Samuel's growth was that he was ministering. He was making use of the Word. Even while sleeping Samuel was attentive. Spiritual Growth does not come easily. Do not ignore God when he calls to your heart. No one grows like that. The key to Samuel's growth was service. Our growth can only be possible when we are ready to take instruction!

There is a difference between growing and memorizing scripture. There is a difference between knowing the scriptures and having them memorized.

You must know your nature. It is very vital. We are spiritual beings living in a body made of flesh. You are a new kind of humanity.

You need to learn how to switch from having confidence in the flesh to having confidence in the spirit. When this happens, growth comes naturally.

1 Corinthians 2:2 - There must be determination to grow. That determination must come from you. Spiritual growth is hard work. You must make up your mind to know the Lord, to seek the Lord. You must come to a point in your life where this determination comes from you. If it is not scripture, forget about it. In spiritual growth, your diet matters. There must be determination.

Philippians 3:3 - We must worship God in the spirit and put away confidence in the flesh. Do not base your spiritual life on what you have in the bank. Don't put confidence in the flesh. Worship God in the spirit. Rejoice in Christ! Rejoice on what Christ has done.

Philippians 3:4-7 - Putting confidence in the flesh is a decision (a bad decision, but still a decision). You must fight to choose to have confidence in the spirit. Do not put confidence in the flesh. Your confidence must be in Christ and on what Christ has done. It is not about you. Your authority is released through knowing Jesus. Don't have faith in the things that you own. Have faith in Christ. Your life is not defined by what you have materially. It is defined by the spirit of God in you.

Philippians 1:6 - Confidence should be in the Lord, not in things. Your confidence must be in what Christ has done. Be confident about the spirit of Christ in you. This will cause you to grow spiritually. Your struggles do not determine your identity. Your possessions do not determine your identity. Remove your mind from the flesh. Focus on God. God is at work! There is a working of God. It never expires. God is not giving up. Keep on paying attention to the Word of God. Remove your mind from your weaknesses. Put your mind on Christ. You are not defined by psychologists. You are a new creation. God is the only one who can define you. You have one nature and that is Christ. Sanctified by the blood.

Romans 8:38-39 - Confidence comes from being convinced. Come to a point in your Christian walk where you are persuaded. Put your confidence on what Christ has done. When we are born again, your spirit is renewed, but you need to reprogram your mind.

Ezekiel 11:19 - You don't have a refurbished spirit. You are a new creation, not refurbished! A new spirit has been put in you. The old spirit that you had was contaminated by the seed of Adam.

Romans 5:12, 14 - Spiritual death entered into the world through sin. God is not coming to refurbish your spirit but to replace it with a new spirit. The inner man is not a physical body.

Romans 7:22 - The inward man is a spriit of new creation. You do not have the same spirit you had before you were born again. You must reeducate your mind. The inward man has one diet, the word of God.

Colossians 3:10 - You have put on a new man when you were born again. Not a refurbished man, but a new man. You must feed the new man every day.

2 Corinthians 4:16 - Renew your inward man day by day. Not just on Sundays. Get yourself into the word daily. Do not be a part time Christian. A part time Christian cannot stop a full time demon. Engage yourself in the Word of God.

1 John 5:13-14 - Appreciate what you have in God. Know that you have eternal life. Confidence comes when you know God.

Hebrews 10:35 - Cast not away your confidence. Do Not! Confidence comes as a result of knowing.

Say it with us: "I am a new creation! My confidence is in Christ! I will discard my confidence in the flesh!"
