Title: The Danger of Religion

The danger of religion (the difference between the spirit of religion and the Spirit of God)

Everyone has different ways to serve God. No two people are alike and we each have our own purpose. But we need to take care how we serve God with our talents.

There are a lot of religions in the world. It is religion that keeps us from understanding the identity of God. Religion is man's attempt to please (appease?) God. Religion to the world means darkness. It acts as chains binding people to the darkness. The spirit of religion is a dangerous spirit. It is only through the Word that we can be set free. The Word has the possibility to change you.

Our identity is defined by the way we worship God. A life in Christ gives us authority. It is through understanding the Word that freedom is released to you.

The Sadducees were angry whenever the Word of God was being preached (Acts 4:1-2). The function of the priest was to represent the people before God and uphold the word of God. But here they are working against the apostles that was teaching and preaching about Jesus. The teachings of Christ threatened them. The name of Jesus is all you need (Acts 4:7). It is above all other names. It is the most powerful name (Acts 4:13-16). It is the only name by which you can be saved (Acts 4:12).

Modern religion looks at Christianity as a waste of time. Religion will keep you out of truth. It blinds your eyes from seeing the Truth. Hypocrites work under the spirit of religion.

In Acts 4:16 the Sadducees knew how the miracle happened, but they did not want to turn to the truth. To them it was a notable miracle. Miracles make them feel threatened (John 11:47). Religion keeps you away from supernatural intervention/manifestation. Religion cripples our faith so that we don't look up to God.

Religion makes you look like an ordinary person. Religion doesn't want miracles to happen (Luke 6:10-11). It threatens your soul. Christianity is not an ordinary relationship. It is a supernatural relationship. The devil trembles the church but the supernatural keeps us away from religion. Religion never believed in God, because the flesh feels threatened. When someone is blessed by God, the religious spirit gets angry and mad.

We, Christians, are serving a God of miracles.

A religious person doesn't have authority in the spirit (John 9:18-23). Authority in the spirit only comes through a life in Christ. Kill the religious spirit and don't let it kill you. The religious spirit is threatened when it hears about the Word of God (Acts 13:45). The religious spirit is not forever. It is fleeting. The religious spirit keeps people in fear of taking a step in life.

Lastly, the spirit of religion removes Joy from you. We, children of God, don't have the spirit of religion but the Spirit of God. Feel alive in the Spirit of God. Feel Joy in the Spirit of God.

Title: The Love of God

You can't live for God if you don't understand the love of God.

In Ephesians 3:14-18 Paul was praying for the strength of the saints. That they be strengthened through the power of God's Spirit. The reason we get discouraged is because our inner man is not strong. The only way the inner man may be strong is through the indwelling of Christ in your heart. The only way you will have Christ in your heart is through faith which comes by the Word of God.

You must have the knowledge to know the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:19).

What is the love of Christ? How can we know the love of Christ? It is important to know the love of Christ. The growth of the inner man is possible only through the knowledge of God's Word. Our relationship with God is not by feeling but by knowing - knowing that God loves us.

Paul was saying we should know the love of Christ. We should come to a point in our relationship with God that we have adequate knowledge that Christ loves us. The love of God supersedes the feelings of man. God says you are saved. It must be through knowledge, not through feeling. If you don't have the knowledge of how much Christ loves you then you cannot see the fullness of God.

In Philippians 1:9 Paul was praying for the church. Your love may abound in knowledge. He was trying to magnify the fact that you shouldn't rely on feeling. Life won't always go the way you think it should, but that shouldn't discourage you because you have knowledge. Be strong in knowledge, not in feeling.

If you don't have adequate knowledge of the love of God, you will not see those things which are excellent (Philippians 1:10). You won't see those things that are worth giving yourself to. You won't see excellent things in your life or the life of others. Know that God will provide for you. Have the knowledge that God loves you.

If you have knowledge of God's love, you will be sincere (found pure) in your dealings with him. You will be void of offense. If you have the knowledge that you have the love of Christ and that He died for you, then you will be living all the days of your life in a way that people will not sin because of you. You will not be troubled by the conscience of sin.

If you have knowledge of God's love, you will be able to love him back. Even if you are a mess know that He still loves you. You need to see that God loves you. You will be filled with the fruits of righteousness when you come to this knowledge (Philippians 1:11). We cannot love God well until we know how much He loves us.

You didn't love God first. He loved you first (1 John 4:9-10). He doesn't love us because we love Him. He loved us before we even thought about coming to Him. You can't believe in God's love until you know He loved you first (1 John 4:16). We know and we believe! You can't love what you don't know.

If you have a lot of things (troubles) on your plate, that is all the more reason for you to come to church. God can take away your troubles. God is not a condemner. He will not condemn you but relieve you of your troubles.

If you know the love of Christ then you must keep yourself in the love of Christ. Don't forget you are loved, especially in times of trial. Keep yourself in the love of God (Jude 1:21). Remind yourself everyday how much you are loved. Wake up knowing God loves you. Don't let the devil tell you otherwise.

God loves me! - shout it from the rooftops and believe it! God is so great he can do all things.

Looking at Romans 8:1 we see that Paul was telling the Roman church that there is no condemnation in the love of God. Don't let the devil tell you otherwise. If you have the knowledge of the love of God, then you will not be panicking in the time of trials because you are a conqueror (Romans 8:37). Nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39). Tell the devil he can't separate you from that love. There must be a knowledge of God's love so that you can tell the enemy that he can't stop you.

When you are passing though challenges in life, the enemy will not talk you out of your faith if you have knowledge of God's love.

Let's look at 1 Thessalonians 1:6. Paul was talking to the church telling them they would receive the Word of God even in affliction - not to be separated from the Word of God. When affliction comes it will not stop you from being obedient if you have knowledge. Because you do not doubt God's love, even in affliction, you will be an example to all that believe (1 Thessalonians 1:7).

Don't give you. Hold on to the love of God. In the midst of affliction you must know that God loves you (1 Thessalonians 1:8). You must have faith. Don't give up! If we are going to be strong Christians we must know how much God loves us (1 Thessalonians 1:9). You must know God loves you!

Seek to know God. Seek to know that he loves you! Seek to know how very much he loves you!

Title: Keep the Fire Burning

Are you excited today? Today you woke up among the land of the living. Do you realize how blessed you are?

Keep the fire burning!

The fire is the main aspect of today's lesson. When you have the fire within you, you are excited! People lose their way with God because they don't keep the fire burning. Once God puts that spark or that fire in us we must maintain and feed that fire. It's much like camping. If you want warmth and the ability to cook then you need to keep the fire fed. Feed your fire.

In Leviticus 9:22 the Lord appeared unto all the people and there came a fire up to the Lord. Fire in the Old Testament always represents who God is. We must keep the fire burning in our souls. We need fire to survive. Keep it burning so that when people see you they will see God in you.

Exodus 3:2-4 tells us God showed up as fire and it got Moses' attention. (side note: fire will burn in us without burning us up). When the fire burns in us, people will see it. In the Old Testament fire is considered to be God. Wherever He was He got attention.

We lay hands on each other to put that spark of fire within others. If I was there during Exodus 19:18 I would have been in awe watching all of the smoke and the mountain quake. That's showing us how powerful our God is. This is why we must keep the fire burning.

Saturate me in your fire. Help me to mediate on these things (the Word of God). Say it with confidence. This is what is going to allow us to become warriors in order to defeat those negative things in our life. No Christian should be depressed or consumed by their problems. We must trust in our Almighty God to give us what it takes to carry on.

We must reverence our God with awe and fear (Hebrews 12:28-29). He burns up those that are against Him. Fire burns up anything in its path. When God comes into our lives He burns up those ungodly things within us. The more you draw God into you, the more differently you will see things. You will be able to recognize the beauty around you.

The fire in the tabernacle should never go out (Leviticus 6:13). We are God's tabernacle. Don't let your fire go out. God tells us to keep the fires burning morning and evening (1 Chronicles 16:40). We must keep our fires burning at all times. Be in prayer continually. It will keep your day beautiful. Follow the Word. God wants us to keep the fire burning inside of us. We don't do burnt offerings anymore but instead we offer ourselves to God. We give ourselves to God. This is what puts the fire burning within us.

The Israelites forgot/failed to keep the fire burning. We must not fail to remember the Word of God or those things God puts in us. We need to meditate on those things. Get away from negative people. They will slowly burn the fire our of you.

Keep the fire burning!

There are things you can do to keep the fire burning. When you have the praises for God continually in your mouth, that is what will keep the fire burning (Psalms 34:1). Be continually in prayer and in the Word to keep the fire burning (Acts 6:4). Keep your spiritual house clean. If you don't then the devil will come and take away your joy and you will find yourself worse off than before. Be baptized in the fire of the Lord (Luke 3:16) and keep it burning. Pray without ceasing to keep it burning. Praying, fasting, and meditation will keep the fire burning (Isaiah 58:6)

People will see the fire burning in your life (1 Timothy 4:15). When you have the fire of God in your life, it will be visible. People will see the fire in you because of your actions, because of your excitement, because of the joy within you.

I want God to continue to consume me, to burn within me! Shout it out!

The follow up was by Brother Benjamin.

In the Old Testament God used fire in many ways to get the attention of the Israelites . Where there is fire there is light in the darkness. The fire of God should burn continually at the altar which is the prototype of the children of God. We are the temple of God.

Please remember this is the fire of God. Not actual physical fire. Don't really set yourself on fire. We want to be blessed, not burnt. (okay this may sound ridiculous to say but people have misinterpreted this type of fire before and actually set a church on fire because they were reading the Word but not being IN the Word.)

Fire purifies. The fire of God will purify you.

Remember Jesus was going to baptize with fire (Acts 2:1-3). The Holy Ghost will burn out all those unholy things from your life. A child of God should not be confused about their life. The fire will give you direction. Fire is a symbol of the Holy Ghost in the New Testament. Fire comes to give you direction.

After Judas died there were only eleven (11) apostles and they thought they needed someone to replace him. Who was going to replace Judas Iscariot (Acts 1:23-26)? When Jesus was in the flesh, He was directing them and guiding them. After He was resurrected He informed the apostles to be guided by the Holy Ghost. They were looking for someone to replace Judas so they cast lots. They did it this way because the Holy Ghost was not in them.

Frequently in the old testament they were casting lots (Joshua 18:8, Proverbs 16:33) because the Holy Ghost was not in them. In the New Testament it shouldn't be so. God honored what they were doing because it was the only way they could communicate with the Divinity. But we have the fire in the New Testament. We should be able to use the fire to give us direction.

After Acts 1 you will not see them casting lots any more because they received the fire of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:4). When you receive the Holy Ghost you are baptized with Fire. To be productive you have to follow the fire. Speak the Word to all the people (Acts 5:19-20). We must give ourselves to the Word of God (Acts 6:4). You must feed the fire. The Word of God is the fuel needed to feed the fire.

Once you give yourself to the Word of God you will begin to listen to the Spirit of the Lord (Acts 8:29). It takes the Spirit of God in you to give you direction. Don't just settle. Choose to have direction. Don't be confused. Don't let yourself be misled.

The fire of God will quicken the growth in you. But you need to feed yourself on the Word of God. You can't grow without it. You do want to grow don't you?

Title: Faithlessness and Discouragement

aka Don't Be a Doubting Thomas

There were lots of examples of men starting off discouraged in the Old Testament. For instance, Moses, Thomas, Zechariah, Samson, and several more. This discussion is going to focus on Moses. You know the story right?

When Moses was born, there was a decree to kill all male Hebrews babies. The pharaoh was worried the Hebrews were going to take over Egypt. Moses grew up and was trained by the Egyptians. He knew he was not an Egyptian. He knew he had a calling from God. He ends up killing an Egyptian and bury's him in the sand because he was beating a Hebrew. Soon Moses realized he was ousted when he was spotted by two Hebrews. At this time he was 40 years old and God wasn't ready for him to bring the Egyptians out of slavery yet.

For the next 40 years Moses was a shepherd of sheep. Fast forward to when he was 80 years old and he see's a burning bush. God spoke to him from that bush. In Exodus 4:2 God asked Moses what he had in his hands. A rod Lord. On God's command he threw it down and it turned into a snake. A snake of deceit which had previously caused Moses to feel like he was a loser for 40 years. He was discouraged and didn't have faith because of that snake.

Do you ever hear that voice of discouragement? The one that tells you that you are a loser? That you're not a good Christian? Or maybe not a good provider? You need to throw down that rod! That's the demon speaking to you. You need to look at all of the good things you've done. Don't listen to the devil! Exodus 4:20, all of a sudden that same rod, when God was through with it, gave him encouragement. It led him back to Egypt where he's going to do some miracles with that rod. All because now he was carrying the rod of God. God worked his wonders on that rod and removed the serpent of deceptiveness.

After Jesus was resurrected, He appeared to the disciples. Thomas wasn't there at the time. When he heard the story, he refused to believe until he could put his fingers in the wound because he was faithless. Our flesh is always being tempted. Have you ever tried to eat just one donut? We fight spirits every day. Read the parable of the sower (see Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, and Luke 8:1-15). The devil comes and takes our seed before it can reach our heart. When we are tempted, we are dealing with a negative spirit around us somewhere. When we start to become faithless (maybe God hasn't answered our prayers fast enough; maybe you've fallen into sin or became discouraged;) we need to ask ourselves why we are doing those things that we know better than to do. When these things happen we are being tempted by evil spirits. When we start being faithless and we start getting negative, all of a sudden we will become truly faithless. We will start to believe in the world more than God. Every one of us has probably already received a rod from God. Have you ever been healed? Did that come from the devil or from God? Have you ever had a vision from God or received a Word from God? Have you ever read your bible and received revelation? When these things happen, God is handing you a rod. Count your miracles.

He handed Peter a rod in Luke 22:31-32. The devil wants you because you have Jesus. You have a God that loves you. Satan knew Peter had a place with God. It's easy to become converted when someone forgives you. What was Peter's rod? The Lord prayed for him and he remembered that.

Maybe God delivered you out of a bad situation. Or shared his Word with you. You've been handed a rod.

When you need to be handed a rod, remember these verses. Romans 8:37 - through all these things (famine, distress, etc) we are conquerors because God loves us. The enemy will try to penetrate your head. He tries to get you to believe things that are untrue. Like God doesn't love you because you are a sinner. It's untrue - God loves you very much. And Isaiah 54:17 - no weapon formed against you will prosper. Learn it. It's true. Let God fight your battles. Give in and put God in control.

Sometimes we need God's rod in our hand to make it through. Sometimes our first born (our inner selves) needs to die for us to be born (set free). Be encouraged that God loves you. Stay faithful, especially in the trying times. God will make you a conqueror!

Title: Bless the Lord

I will praise the Lord at all times! (say it with us!) Enter into His gates with thanksgiving (Psalms 100:4). (note: when the bible talks about gates it usually refers to a place of decision.) We serve an Almighty God that cares about you. We have the keys we need to open the doors that will set us free.

Bless the Lord

We are talking about giving God praise. We must know that the blessings of God are in our lives. How much worse off we would be if the hand of God was not in our lives! God gives us the keys to unlock the door to blessings.

Praise God at all times (Psalms 150:1-6). If you have a storm in your life you should be praising the Lord. Let's discuss Psalms 103 (KJV) or see also (BBE).

David never got tired about praising the Lord. He tells us to uplift the Lord no matter what. Our God is slow to anger. We have so many people in this world (and in our lives) who anger at the drop of a pin. But this is not so with our God. He is patient and merciful.

Have understanding that you are forgiven. Lean on our everlasting God. God's loving kindness is never ending. Understand what a mighty and loving God we serve. God doesn't accept sin but will forgive it if you ask with sincere repentance. We, as parents, want our children to behave and do what we ask and what is right. We punish them when they misbehave in order to correct their behavior. We forgive them when they come and apologize. Why should our God do less? When you make a mistake and you ask forgiveness with a true heart, our loving God will forgive you. He forgives all of our inequities. Keep God's covenant. Follow his instructions. Bless the Lord at all times.

We need to bless the Lord when times are good and when times are bad. We need to bless the lord when negativity comes in our lives. We need to bless the Lord when we feel blessed. Bless the Lord always. This is the answer to your complaining. It's easy to bless God when things are going well but when things are difficult and we bless the Lord, we will in turn be blessed. He will bless us. Praising the Lord will lift your spirits.

When people see the joy in your life they will want some of what you have. What are you on/drinking? I want some! Your response should be something like I'm drunk on the love of God! Our offerings mean nothing if praises aren't behind it (1 Chronicles 16:29).

Tremble before God for He is holy. Worship him in the beauty of holiness (Psalms 29:2 and Psalms 96:9). He is deserving of our praise. The Lord has saved you. He has forgiven all of your inequities. This is why He deserves our praise.

Follow God's instructions and do that which is right in His eyes and He will bless you and heal you (Exodus 15:26). Bless his holy name. If you are feeling down and out, bless the Lord and he will lift you up. Don't praise Him because you expect to be lifted up, that's not really praise for His sake, but for selfishness sake. Praise Him because He deserves praise. Exalt God and God will protect you from the attacks of the devil. God will do great things in you if he is truly in your life. Praise God, exalt his holy name and he will work miracles in your life (Psalms 5:11-12). If you love God and put your trust in Him, you will have joy.

Have renewed strength and mount up on wings as eagles. He will renew your strength (Isaiah 40:31).

God loves it when we praise him (Psalms 99:4). Remember: You are still here. That alone is worthy of praising God. The devil has tried to attack you, tried to cause you sickness, tried to take away your will and your strength. But you are still here. God has been fighting for you. When people see God in your life they will want it too!

Praise God!

Some people will try to tell you that by being a child of God you won't pass through storms in your life. This is another one of the devil's lies. Because we are a child of God, the devil will try to attack us. The devil hates it when we love God. By having faith in God, even in the midst of trials, you will be able to overcome these circumstances. They shouldn't wear you down because God will lift you up.

There's something about praise that opens your eyes that you cannot normally see. Genesis 49:1 - say prophecy! Jacob was a spiritual man. Jacob was an instrument of God. Hearken unto the father (Genesis 49:2). The name Judah means praise (Genesis 49:8). Jacob was giving prophecy to Judah. If you praise God you will have authority. The enemy will have no control over your life. The enemy does not control you. When you begin to praise God you will have authority that the devil cannot take away, that he cannot defeat. People who give time to worship and praise have other people attracted to them because they will want to know how to have joy also.

Over the last couple of days, several members of our church went to a conference where this authority could clearly be seen. Around 6000 believers all gathered in one place sharing the love of God and experiencing the fire God puts in our hearts. And you can see it when people worship God. It shows because of their actions and the way they act towards others.

February Conference 2017

Believe in the Lord and praise Him and you will prosper (2 Chronicles 20:20-22). Even when you are going to war, you should sing praises unto the Lord our God. The Israelites were at war (read the whole Story from verse 1). There is something about praising and worshiping God. He will defeat your enemy. Praise God for his loving kindness. The ordinary mind cannot see God's loving kindness among the challenges in life. But as a child of God, you should see things differently. The Lord will launch a surprise attack in your favor because you worship and praise him.

Another example of God defeating our enemies when we praise Him is in Acts 16:25-26. Paul and Silas gave praise and worship to God and He sent an earthquake so mighty it opened all the locked prison doors.

Your worship to Jesus will direct what you say and how you approach Him (Matthew 8:1-2). Worship conditions your heart. Worship and praise conditions your heart to prepare you for miracles.

Praise God at all times. His praise should be in your mouth at all times (this is necessary to keep the fire burning - if you haven't read it, see our discussion Keep the Fire Burning). This is how we overcome the battles we face every day. You can choose the world and fight (and most likely rarely conquer) the battles on your own, or you can choose to praise and worship God and have his Almighty Power fight your battles for you. We sincerely hope you choose God.

"You have turned my mourning into dancing

You have turned my sorrow into joy

This is how we overcome"

Title: Children's Time: The Blood of Christ

Today we discussed with the children how we are saved by the blood of Christ. It is often painful when we get injured and certainly not something we set out to do. Yet Christ willingly sacrificed himself to be beaten, tortured and nailed to a cross to die. This is more pain than most of us will endure in a lifetime. Christ did if for his great love for us, so that we might be saved from our sin. It is by the blood of Jesus Chris His Son that we are cleansed from all sin and it is through repenting our sins that we are truly forgiven (1 John 1:7,9). God loves us so much that He sent his only Son to save us from our sins by dying for us(John 3:16, Romans 5:8).

Title: The Great Commission

A disciple of Jesus should be involved in the Great Commission.

Go and teach all nations (Matthew 28:18-19). Talk to someone about Jesus. This is the Great Commission and this is our responsibility as children of God. God expects us to tell somebody about Him. Jesus has all power and authority and asks us to go. Go and tell the world about Him. This will make your faith strong. The more you exercise it the stronger your faith will be.

The function of the Spirit of God in you is for you to be his witness (Acts 1:8). Start within your home and your household, your family, your neighbors, your school, etc. This is your Jerusalem. It is your responsibility to be a witness. You have seen what God can do. You have witnessed it. Now go and share your testimony.

Are you afraid? This is common but shouldn't be so. One of the expectations of the spirit is that you must witness to the power and glory of God, how God saved you, and how God has moved in your life (for a start). If you have faith in God, nothing should make you afraid. He has your back.

Peter witnessed to the people (Acts 2:14-16) telling them what was in the Word and about the bible. If we are going to be effective children of God then we must be able to share the word, to share our testimony. Declaring your faith in public will strengthen your faith. You don't stretch your authority within the four walls of the church. You stretch your authority when you share outside those walls.

But don't preach your mind. Don't preach your opinions. You must communicate the gospel of Christ. Share your testimony, but keep it focused on the gospel. Minister about how God came to die for us.

It isn't the Holy Ghost that speaks to the people (Acts 4:1-5). Sometimes we expect people to just come to church (we're listed in the newspaper - right?). But if they are not invited, how do they know they are welcome? Most people start going to a church because they were invited by someone. The apostles taught the word because they were being obedient to the Great Commission.

If we want to partner with God (this is the meaning of the Great Commission - that you are going to partner with God) make up your mind that this week you are going to talk to someone. The apostles did not share their opinions but told people about Jesus. They told the people their testimony. It is our responsibility to talk to people. God will touch their heart, but you must first invite them. It's not the responsibility of some people or the pastors, but every Christian's responsibility.

The Holy Ghost will encourage you even in your struggles (Acts 5:40). The enemy is against us. The devil is afraid of Jesus and will do everything he can to prevent you from talking about Jesus. You need to tell the devil to shut up!

Don't be afraid or ashamed. Rejoice in your faith (Acts 5:41). Have joy to share your faith. Be excited to share your faith. The Great Commission is our responsibility. We must make up our minds to tell people that we enjoy God's presence. That God has saved us. You must tell people about Jesus. He is the only hope for humanity.

Go from house to house (Acts 5:42) without being discouraged. Some people will turn you away. Some may slam the door in your face. Bless them and move on. You need to find the people that are in need of the Word. They are out there and they will be thankful when you bring it to them. And you will have joy for doing it. You have to work at it. Daily. Every day you must preach and teach about Jesus Christ.

The bible was written for our learning (Romans 15:4). It doesn't tell us that going house to house was the old way of doing things, that we would outgrow that method. It is as relevant today as it has ever been.

Commit your life to talk about Jesus. Even if it's only once a month. That's small and you can do better than that - but it is better than nothing. Daily, in the temple and in the house, you should teach.

In Acts 1-5 the disciples were concentrating on Jerusalem (their home). But the disciples were not content with just speaking at home. They needed to spread the word. Don't have a maintenance mentality. Be a builder. Get people saved. Get people baptized. Get people filled with the Spirit of God (Acts 8:5).

The Spirit of God can not do evangelism for the church. The church must do it's own evangelism (Acts 8:6). We must make up our minds to be a disciple making church by what we do. Make up your mind that we are going to represent Jesus (side note: look at us like His marketing team).

We need to preach the bible and go on the Great Commission (Romans 1:16-17). Don't be ashamed, the gospel is the power of God. If you want to see the power of God, you must engage yourself in the gospel. If you don't preach the gospel you are not revealing the righteousness of God. The righteousness of God can only be seen through the gospel.

Talk to someone. Pray for them. Invite them to church.

Be a disciple of Jesus. Don't settle for less. Don't become sedimentary. Get excited. Ask the Lord to help you. Sharing your testimony will become the highlight of your day. People will call you crazy for being out there. It's okay. Be crazy for Jesus!

You are wise by accepting Jesus (Daniel 12:3). If you are going to be as bright as a star then you must turn many to righteousness.
