Title: Worship is an Important Part of Prayer; Pray in Two Dimensions.

Notes:

Shout with the voice of praise!

We have been spending the last several lessons talking about prayer. Last week we talked about the need to be specific in prayer. During this lesson we will discuss the importance of worship in prayer.

We are talking about giving honor and praise to our God, the supreme being. We are talking about giving respect to the Lord our God. We need to get on our knees and worship our God. He alone is worthy of praise.

Acknowledge all that God has done for you and all that he will do for you. We must praise his name (Psalms 28:1). Bow down before him. God inhabits the praises of his people. He needs to be reverenced and praised for who he is.

Worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Seek to worship God. Jesus said our God is worthy to be worshiped. We must bow down before him and acknowledge how awesome he is. Worship also means to be in joyful service to our Lord thy God. God wants his church to be excited. Are you excited about giving your time to God? When you are, your problems will seem small. God needs to be worshiped daily (side note: you will feel empowered when you praise and worship God).

If you want to get your prayers answered, you need to praise Him for who He is and for what He has done for you. Before you give your petitions, give him praise. It will be your savior who gets you through your day and it will be your praise which enriches your day. When you worship Him, there will be no problems that will hinder you. Continually praise your God for all He has done and all He will do

When Israel wanted to worship God with thanksgiving they always brought Him an offering. This was their way of giving God thanksgiving. Our offering and thanksgiving is the praises that we give Him. Be in continual praise (Leviticus 7:12).

Enter His gate with praise and thanksgiving (Psalms 100:4).

God showed up at a time when the Israelites were in captivity and He came and delivered them from their affliction. When they realized it was God they bowed and worshiped their true God (Exodus 4:31)

God is holy and worthy to be worshiped (Psalms 99:5, 9). We were created to worship and praise God and to honor Him (Revelation 4:11). Even the angels worship God (Revelation 7:9-11). What an awesome God we serve. Worship him in your car, on your job, in your home. Worship God at all times (there may be times it is not appropriate to fall on your knees such as being in a meeting at work but we can still exalt Him). We were created to worship and exalt God. Magnify His name. Exalt God in good times and in bad times. He is worthy of praise at all times.

Follow up - two dimensions of prayer:

A believer in Christ has two dimensions to his praise. Praise in the spirit and praise with understanding.

If you are going to be a productive believer, you have to understand that we praise in two dimensions. Now, you might ask "how do we praise in the spirit?" False doctrine will tell us that we don't need to praise in the spirit and that this is a silent type of praise. But neither of these statements are so. Praying in the spirit is a dimension of prayer. Praying in the spirit is giving yourself over to the Holy Ghost and involves speaking in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:14).

Pray always with prayer and supplication in the spirit (Ephesians 6:18). This is showing us one of the dimensions of prayer. It isn't saying to be quiet. There is a difference between meditation(the act of being quiet and stilling yourself) and praying in the spirit.

A believer's spirit should be able to pray. It is only God that can understand the prayers when your spirit prays (1 Corinthians 14:14). Why is it that we don't understand our own words when we speak in the spirit? We are not speaking Swahili, nor French, nor German. We are speaking the words of our spirit which is beyond human comprehension without Gods help. In 1 Corinthians 14:15, Paul is telling us we need to pray in two dimensions. You can sing with understanding but you can also sing in the spirit. You can pray in understanding and you can pray in spirit.

We need to understand the two dimensional aspects of prayer. If you don't pray in the spirit, there is a level of growth that won't come to you (1 Corinthians 14:2). Praying in the Holy Ghost is the same thing as praying in the spirit and it is a way of building up yourself on your most holy faith (Jude 1:20).

Allow the word of Christ to dwell in you richly in all wisdom (Colossians 3:16). Pray and sing in the spirit. If you want to be a praying believer, there should be two dimensions to your praying life. The works of the spirit will help you to be born again. The infilling of the Holy Ghost will give you wisdom.

You cannot truly be baptized if you are not saved. It is important to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit so that you can pray in two dimensions (Acts 8:5-15). Allow yourself to be used by the Holy Spirit!

You need to pray in the spirit and you need to pray with understanding.

There are a lot of voices in the environment in which you live. There are the voices of the devil, your neighbors, your television and radio, and many more. How will you live victoriously? By praying in the spirit. God will be giving you direction in your spirit. You will walk out of prayer to face all of the voices with boldness.

In Hebrews 5:14, if you don't understand this than you will think, by meat, he is talking about food but he is really talking out a level of understanding. Look back at Hebrews 5:11-13 and we see that he is talking about people who are not mature in the word. When you begin to pray in the spirit, you will be training your senses. If you train your spirit and senses, you will gain understanding.

Accept the Holy Spirit and allow the spirit to work through you. Don't be afraid to speak in tongues. Don't be afraid to speak those unknown words that come through your spirit during prayer. Have two dimensions to your prayers.
