Title: [the importance of] Spiritual Growth (continued)

[Not so] Brief Highlights:

In order for believers to grow spiritually, we must have an accurate understanding of what Christ has done for us. Spiritual Growth is taking advantage of what Christ has done. If you don't know what Christ has done, how can you grow? In these times, we need to be addicted to God's word; addicted to studying God's word.

2 Peter 3:18 - Believers are already in grace, but we need to continually grow in it. "...grow in grace, and in the knowledge..." The "and" here is from the Greek word "καί" (see Strong's Greek #2532) meaning "namely" as in "which is" - so this verse is telling us that we need to grow in the Grace WHICH IS (namely) in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior. The bible is our life so we should be able to understand it (interpreters note: many times people have said "no one ever gave me an owner's manual when I was born." Oh! But yes, yes you were! The bible is our life line, our self help manual, our instruction manual and user's guide. But you must have an understanding of what you are reading).

Acts 4:12 (Acts 2:36) - there is no other way to be Saved except through Christ. We must have knowledge that we are saved. We MUST have knowledge of what Christ has done!

Romans 1:1-2 - Jesus IS the Gospel of God. "What God promised that he would do..." The Holy Scriptures have to do with the Old Testament.

The bible is divided into 4 sections

I. The prophecies - Genesis thru Malachi - or the Holy Scriptures [which is][also known as] the Mysteries. There is a key to understanding. The problem came from the minds of the people God was trying to deal with at the time. Once again you must know and understand what it is you are reading. What comes to your mind when you think on the Genesis 3:1? A talking snake? If so you may be watching too many children's networks on TV. God has never made a talking animal. The verse is not referring to a talking snake. That is Hollywood. That is not the bible. Okay, so the bible does not say "a snake" - A serpent? Notice that Genesis 3:1 does not say "a serpent" or "the serpents" - it states "the serpent" as in one of a kind. Look at Revelation 12:9 - the serpent was not an animal, it was a being called Satan, aka the enemy. These are things you should be picking up on when studying your bible.

Don't just read your bible. Study it! The Old Testament is available online in the original Hebrew, as is the New Testament available in the original Greek. There are sites which will help you dig deeper into a word. "And" - in English it is a simple conjunction - "this AND that" - like the Greek word καί, it never means one or the other - rather, it means both. But this is where English falls short of the original Greek word as discussed above. (note taker's example: an Inuit person would be left wondering if you told them "there is snow ahead" (are you warning them, or casually mentioning it?) - the Inuit people have hundreds of different expressions for snow, so to tell someone "the trail guide mentioned snow ahead" may technically be correct, but not accurate or helpful if the trail guide was Inuit and used the word "muruaneq" which means a soft deep snow. Which is most likely critical information if you are traveling).

Your mind should not be confused by the simplicity of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3).

God has came in the flesh. He chose to be human (Romans 1:1-3). God became flesh to be like you, to save you! And me. God came to save all of his children everywhere. Why? Because he loves us! He loves us one and all! He loves us ALL unconditionally! That is what a perfect parent would do.

Ephesians 1:3 - Spiritual Growth is a product of a believer knowing what has happened and taking advantage of it.  Because God loves and forgives, and because God is living inside of you, you have the capacity to love and to forgive.

Going back to Adam and Eve. Genesis 3:3 - The fruit they ate was the fruit of deception. Not an apple. The deception that happened is in the heart of man. We can know this because Matthew 15:11 tells us that it is not what you eat that defiles you, rather it is the thoughts that come out from your heart.

II. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John - shows us the fulfilment of the prophecy

III. Acts of Apostles (referred to as "Acts") - gives us an explanation of the reality of what has come to fulfilment - a history of what has come to fulfilment

IV. The Epistles - these are letters to the church. An explanation of the prophecies and what has come to fulfilment.
John 20:31 - the gospel was written so that you may know what was fulfilled and how you benefit.

Philippians 2:12-13 - Victory is already in you. In all believers. But you need to walk it out. God is in you. You need to trust in and rely on the ability of God. We must believe. We are believers. Focus on the Word. Constantly look at what God has done! There is nothing the bible says we can that you cannot!

Ephesians 1:13 - we have the word of truth, the Gospel of Salvation!

Ephesian 1:1-6 - Grace brings peace. God our Father has blessed us! Not "will bless us"! He has already blessed us spiritually! Rejoice because of what you have! When you have Jesus, you have life. You have to choose to be part of God's plan.

Ephesians 1:15-16 - if you have faith, if you are born again, you must love. A believer must know Christ!

Ephesians 1:18 - Paul was praying that you may know what is the hope of His calling. The inheritance is in you, in all saints. The riches of God are in you. The riches of God is the believers that have God within them. Do not confuse this with the riches of man.

Ephesians 1:19 also Acts 3:1-3 - A believer must know how powerful God is. The power within the believer exceeds any influences that the enemy can throw at us. We have the power to defeat the enemy! YOU have the power to defeat the power of the enemy! The power of God is inside you! Utilize it, rely on it.

1 Corinthians 6:17 see also Ephesians 2:6 - Your address is within Jesus. You should shout with excitement that "Jesus lives inside of me!" Wherever Christ goes, we go!

Ephesians 4:1 and Ephesians 3:4 - Walk in understanding. This is spiritual growth. But in order to grow you must study your bible. Reading your bible is a start, but you must study the Word, you must be a student of the Word. Start your study sessions with a prayer for understanding. When you are in church, and someone is teaching the bible, you must be taking notes to help you grow. Like reading, listening will only get you so far. You need to go back and review your notes, reread the scriptures and think on it, pray on it, meditate on the Word.

We will leave you with this last thought for now. Ephesians 4-2 - Believers must have a relationship with other believers. You cannot grow on your own.

Forgive before you are asked. God wants us to be healthy and whole. The only one hurt by your anger is you. Let it go. Ask God to help you let it go.
