Title: Walking in God's Love

Notes:

Last time (see notes from 3/12/2017) we discussed the difference between feeling and knowing God's love. It's hard, if not next to impossible, to feel God's love all of the time due to the way our lives work, but at all times we should know God loves us.

Today we are going to talk about walking in God's love.

We need absolute knowledge about the love of Christ in order to partake in the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19). We must come to a place in our life where we know the love of Christ. Last week we talked about the greek word ginóskó - the kind of knowledge that comes from feeling but goes beyond just feeling (like knowing your own name, age, or phone number). You must know that God is there by your side. Things may not always go the way you feel like they should and the only thing that will keep you going is the knowledge of God's love.

The fruit (singular) of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (the ability to handle all things coming against you; the ability to endure), gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (Galatians 5:22). If you have the knowledge of the love of God in the midst of trouble it will not wear you down (Galatians 5:23). The knowledge will keep you connected to God. The love of God is revealed in His death. We must learn how to receive His love. You must receive it without complaining.

Let's take a minute to break down Luke 15:15-25. In parable there is revelation. This is why Jesus passed out messages to his people through parable. Remember, we have talked about it before, it is not a sinners prayer that gets you forgiveness. Forgiveness begins when you decide to accept God. This is because of His love for you. The young man in this parable squandered everything his father gave him and had so little that he felt forced to eat the same food as the swine.

The young man's forgiveness begins in verse 17. He forgot to know that his forgiveness would start the first time that he decided to go home (read as when you go back to Christ). Don't think you aren't worthy of God's love just because you messed up. God always loves you.

Verse 20 - history tells us that the father waited at the gates every morning for his son to return. Everyday he wakes up and goes and waits at the gates. Your father in heaven is waiting for you. The father in the parable had compassion. He didn't wait for his son to come to him - instead when he saw his son he ran to him. God didn't wait for you to be righteous before dying for you because He loves you and has compassion for you.

In Verse 22 the word "but" is saying that the father wasn't listening to the son before making a decision. He already accepted his love without arguing. The father already provided everything the young man needed. We must accept God's love without arguing. You cannot be victorious until you know that God loves you; you cannot overcome sin or hardship until you make up your mind to accept God's love without arguing, The young man's father wasn't saying to lock the son up or tell him to be gone; instead he was telling the servants to bring the young man the best of everything - not refurbished or worn goods, but the best. There is no second class citizen in heaven, only first class as all of God's children are treated with the best. God forgives you when you accept his love and decide to come home to him. Work with the knowledge that God has forgiven you. You are not a servant - you are a son (or daughter). You need to accept what God has given you with joy (verse 23). Be merry about the freedom God has given you. Your present circumstance does not affect what God has already done. You need to stop complaining and accept God's love. Enjoy God in the salvation He has given to us.

Don't argue with God. Accept His love. Walk in His love. Do not argue and do not confess negative thoughts that the enemy brings you. Do not walk after the flesh (the sins you have done, the things you have done wrong) (Romans 8:1)

Now let's talk about Joshua 2:1-12. Rahab was a harlot. The bible doesn't hide anything from us. God sent a spy to stay in her house. God wanted to show us how he cares for us.

Look at the confession in Verse 9. It will help you with God's love. Did Rahad have a feeling? No! She had adequate knowledge of what God was doing. If you have adequate knowledge of God you can stand against any hardship. There's another confession here that you need to listen to. It is in Verse 11. It is a confession that God has absolute control over what is going to happen. Your God is the God of heaven. Based on her testimony, God has taken care of her past.

Learn how to tell the enemy that "I am not what I used to be!" Rahab became the great grandmother of Jesus (Verse 12 and Matthew 1:5). This means that Jesus accepts her for who she is. There is nothing that can separate you from God if you accept His love and walk in His love.

Lastly we'd like to discuss 2 Samuel 9:1-10. When David became king he wanted to show the kindness of God to someone who was worthy. Was there anyone? Yes! There was a lame man. Keep in mind that in those days, the crippled and lame were looked down on. But David didn't care that he was lame. David wanted to know where this man was. God is is looking out for us before we ever come to the law.

God's love will fetch us out of a place of dryness, a place lacking in productivity (verse 5). The first thing God wants to take away from you is fear (verse 7). He accepts you unconditionally. God will bring you restoration after he brings you out of the place of dryness. God is not in the business of tearing you down, but restoring you. David is showing us the life of Christ; that we will eat at Christ's table continually, without ceasing. "Eat bread at my table continually&qout; has spiritual significance.

Even when God shows us grace, we don't see it (verse 8). If you are going to walk in God's love then you have to understand how He sees you (verse 9). David overlooked the lame man's identity. So it is with us - God overlooks our identity and accepts us for who we are.

You must walk in God's love. By walking in His love you will seek to do those things which make Him happy. Such as following the Word. Be in the Word daily. Know that God love's you. Walk in this love. Be productive.
