Title: Knowing the Love of Christ

Knowing the Love of Christ

The first thing you need to understand about the love of Christ is that your knowing affects your doing. In today's discussion we are aiming to discuss three things, First, we'd like to discuss knowing the love of God. Secondly, determine what is the love of God. And lastly, we aim to cover working in the love of God.

Recommended reading: 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus

God gave Paul a revelation that most of the people of the time failed to understand (Ephesians 3:19). And to know the love of Christ with perfect knowledge. Know in this case means to be sure, to have great understanding; it is the difference between knowledge and feelings; not just to feel but to know by being aware; to have an accurate understanding. Your understanding should go beyond knowledge. The greek work is ginóskó.

According to Strong's Concordance

ginóskó: to come to know, recognize, perceive

Original Word: γινώσκω

Part of Speech: Verb

Transliteration: ginóskó

Phonetic Spelling: (ghin-oce'-ko)

Short Definition: I come to know, learn, realize

Definition: I am taking in knowledge, come to know, learn; aor: I ascertained, realized.

The knowing of your name, your home address, your age, this is the kind of knowledge that Paul is talking about. The kind of knowledge that comes through your feeling, through your senses, but goes beyond that. This knowledge should surpass your feelings.

Your knowledge about the love of God will release the fullness of God in your life.

This love is revealed through His death. It's not defined by how much you have in the bank, the kind of car you drive, the clothes you wear, or by the roof over your head.

Romans 5:6 says when we were yet without strength - talking about being sick or helpless, when you have nothing, when there is no good thing about you. The love of Christ is revealed in His death. Christ didn't die because of your good grammar, your educational level, or the amount you have in the bank. Christ died for you because he loves you.

If you are not a good person few will die for you (Romans 5:7). Almost nobody will want to die for you if you are a bad person. The love of God is revealed in that Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Don't judge Christ's love based on your possessions, but by what He did for you.

God did not wait for us to ask for forgiveness. He loves you so much He decided to die for you before you were able to ask for forgiveness (Romans 5:10). The biggest thing we should have to fear is a separation from God.

If you believe that if I don't have a good car then I am not loved by God then you are being deceived; the devil is whispering in your ear. Jesus coming and dying for us was to reconcile us to the love of God. People can have good cars without having a belief in God or even being a good person. You can't judge your life or the love of God for you based on what worldly people have.

You are loved just the way you are. You don't need to do anything to be loved by Christ. Have faith in the love God has for us. The love of Christ is revealed when you were yet a sinner.

Another misguided thought is I want to do this to impress God, so that He will love me. You can't impress God, nobody can. But you don't need to - He already loves you. The fullness of God does not come until you have adequate knowledge of His love. God is a good God. The negative things in your life are not because of God. Most often the bad things in our life is because of our free will and making bad decisions. Sometimes they are the devil trying to pry us away from God. But never from God.

Let's talk a little about Job 42:1-6. We approach God based on what our parents, teachers, or ministers have taught us. We have forgotten to look at the Word. Some of us approach God based on circumstances. God cannot manipulate you or get you to do things you don't want to do. The level of God's love towards you has never changed or waned. He doesn't love you more because you pray a lot or love you less because you don't tithe enough (we should do these things because we love Him). God loves us even while we are sinners. Don't base God's love on what you do.

You cannot believe anything about God if you don't know his love. Our generation is telling people to believe without helping them to adequately understand God's love.

1 John 4:16 says known and believed the love that God has for us. Knowing exceeds believing. One reason you need to know the love of Christ is that things will not go the way you plan them too. If you don't know the love of Christ these things will affect the way you worship. Troubles should not take you away from your faith.

You can't be a conqueror (Romans 8:37) until you understand the love of God. You can't conquer sickness or trouble if you don't have adequate knowledge. There's something about God's love that nothing can shake you out of it (Romans 8:38). Bills, troubles, sickness, even death, should not shake your knowledge in the love of God. God loves you and is your protector. No matter how disobedient your child is, you can't sell them to your enemy. You love your child no matter what. God doesn't do any less. Even angels can't persuade God to stop loving you. Nothing can separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:39).

The love of Christ affects your future before you arrive there.

Wake up every morning and thank God for loving you! You need to walk in the love of Christ. Focus your attention in knowing. Your knowing affects your doing. If you understand God's love then you should be living to please Him.

Let's turn to Luke 15 and break it down. Just as a background, Israel never had anything to do with pigs because they were considered unclean.

Luke 15:12-20 - If you don't understand God's love you will have the wrong mentality and think that when we sin God no longer loves us. That he will no longer treat us as his children. No matter what you have done you are still in the Father's heart. Be careful the way you treat non-believers because God still loves them. He gives the non-believers the same level of love He gives to you.

Luke 15:21-27 - The forgiveness already began for the young man when he decided to come back to his father. God's forgiveness begins when you decide to accept His love. Don't ever think that because of what you have done that God is going to place you in second class seating in heaven. There is no economy class or second class seating in God's kingdom. He loves us all the same. Forgiveness comes from the blood of Jesus Christ. The day you decide to accept the love of Christ is the day forgiveness begins. The son in the parable was dead. Not physically. Rather there was a separation between the young man and his father. Once again, being separated from the Father is equivalent to being dead.

Luke 15:28 - Some people in church praise for years, but when a newcomer comes along and the pastor focuses the attention on them the long term believers get angry because they don't understand. Why should the newcomer get that which belongs to them? Their understanding is limited.

Luke 15:29-32 - The accuser of the brethren is not the enemy. There is a problem when you can not forgive the brethren. If you don't understand the love of God then you will not easily forgive your brethren. Love the newcomer as much as the people who have been in your church for years. God does.

God loves you so much that He sent his only begotten Son to die so that you will have eternal life (John 3:16). Be firm in your knowledge that God loves you. Don't be swayed or dissuaded by your circumstances. God does love you!
